THEY'VE raised the temperature at a series of parties across Sydney, cuddling, holding hands and pashing in dark corners. But until now they've both been dating other people.
The openly gay MTV VJ Ruby Rose, 22, had a girlfriend in Melbourne, who could not be named because her parents did not know she was a lesbian.
The relationship, which had been on and off since the couple met four years ago, became serious eight months ago with Rose telling friends her girlfriend would be joining her to live in Sydney.
And The Veronicas' Jess Origliasso, 23, has been dating Azaria from the band The Follow, although she is thought to have broken up with her just weeks ago.
But The Sunday Telegraph understands Rose and Origliasso have both recently split with their partners and are genuinely keen on one another.
The development comes as evidence emerges showing how embattled Jess was the victim of a web vendetta, even before nude pictures of her appeared on a porn website.
There was speculation in some quarters that they were only using the relationship for publicity.
But Rose and Origliasso have been taking the fledgling relationship slowly and were therefore reluctant to talk about it yesterday.
Even though the hand-holding wasn't a publicity stunt, the prospect of Rose (who is also a columnist for The Sunday Telegraph) and Origliasso becoming a permanent fixture on the Sydney party scene is likely to boost both their careers.
Last week Rose was listed as one of Australia's top 100 sexiest people. In April, the two steamed up designer Alex Perry's fashion show, canoodling openly with one another. Origliasso gained even more attention last week when pictures believed to be of her hit the international porn weblog, Fleshbot.com.
Although a Warner Music spokesperson would not confirm the photo was of Origliasso, a private web-chat forum on the Veronicas' official site featured hundreds of messages of support.
With the number of high-profile gay men making no secret of their sexuality rising in the past two years, younger gay women are becoming more comfortable about going public on their sexuality.
Rose has said: "I've watched lesbianism over the last few years slowly become the thing that everyone's doing ... but back in high school, there was no L-word.
"I've been so lucky. I think because I came out at such a young age (12), I never had to sit down and say, 'Mum and Dad, I'm a lesbian' and have them say 'Oh my God'.''
Recently, actress Lindsay Lohan's relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson, 31, has made headlines. However, far from being scandalous, images showing the couple in loving embraces seem to have not only helped Lohan's road back to sobriety but also boosted her waning film career.
