Playboy mogul may marry one of three girlfriends

HE'S been labelled the grand-daddy of debauchery.

And the man who in 1953 launched Playboy magazine with that famous spread of screen siren Marilyn Monroe has no intention of tempering his wicked ways.

Hugh Hefner, staggeringly fit and pin-sharp at 81, jokes that he's considering launching a Playboy edition specifically for married men - a magazine, he says with a laugh, that will feature the same centrefold every month.

The gag, he confesses, delivers some serious insight to his views on love, marriage and relationships.

The twice-married father of four was recently rumoured to be considering another crack at matrimony.

Hefner, who features in the Channel 9 reality show Girls of the Playboy Mansion, shares his life with girlfriends Holly Madison, 27, Kendra Wilkinson, 22, and Bridget Marquardt, 34.

Scuttlebutt suggested he was about to settle with one - Holly.

"I've found a relationship with the girls, and particularly Holly, that is the best I've ever had," Hefner says from his Los Angeles mansion.

"To find somebody that you have so much in common with, despite the age disparity, is wonderful.

"Holly is my best friend and makes every day a pleasure.

"I hope and expect we'll spend the rest of our lives together but marriage is something else again.

"I've not had luck with that before and I don't want to screw it up (the relationship with Holly)."

Which brings us to a couple of obvious questions.

When he was 75, Hefner claimed he had sex "one way or another" every day.

Is the velvet-robe-wearing legend still throwing the leg over?

If so, can he manage the task unassisted, or does he, um, require a volcano (Viagra) to light a match?

Hefner begins answering by claiming there's no reason any man should have a shagging shelf life.

"It's (sex) still three to four times a week, but you can't have (several) girlfriends without Viagra," he says with a mischievous laugh.

"Viagra breaks down the walls between expectation and reality and if a guy can't perform as well as he'd hope to, it (Viagra) gives freedom to men the same way the Pill does to women."

Hefner is regarded by many to be the godfather of the sexual revolution.

The first issue of his magazine hit news stands in December 1953, and carried no cover date because Hefner wasn't sure if he'd get to produce another.

The first issue sold more than 50,000 copies and was seen as a publication open about sex at a time it was a tender topic of discussion in American society.

While there have always been jokes about men buying Playboy for the articles, it has been credited with quality writing aimed at advocating libertarian causes.

Hefner was raised in a strict Methodist family in which there was little expression of love.

He says his life has been a rebellion against that "repressed Puritan stock" - in part explaining why he thinks it acceptable to have simultaneous relationships with several women.

The rules in Hefner's love life are simple: he is not expected to be faithful to the women, but they must be faithful to him.

"They (Holly, Kendra and Bridget) are individuals and they don't date other people," Hefner says.

"I established this with them, so there is no conflict.

"It's like a typical one-on-one relationship except this is a three-on-one.

"If it came to them wanting to go and be with someone else, that would be their choice and I'd understand that."
