THE toddler dubbed Pumpkin, abandoned by her fugitive father at a Melbourne railway station nine days ago, has left Australia to be reunited with her maternal grandmother in New Zealand.
Qian Xun Xue, 3, left Melbourne at 10.30am (AEST) yesterday on a Qantas flight to Auckland as authorities in the United States search for her father, Nai Yin Xue.
He is accused of abducting the girl and murdering his wife and Qian Xun's mother, Anan Liu.
Qian Xun was taken to a safe location in Auckland, where she remained overnight.
Her maternal grandmother, Liu Xiao Ping, is expected in Auckland soon to be reunited with the little girl in a private and secure location.
Mrs Liu is traveling with two officials, an interpreter and another government agency official. She will be taken straight away from the tarmac into official care where she is expected to ask for custody of Qian. Authorities will then decide where Pumpkin will live, in New Zealand or China.
Mrs Liu is also expected to identify and claim the body of her daughter. Anan Liu's body was found last Wednesday in the boot of her husband's car, which was parked outside the family's Auckland home.
A memorial service for Anan Liu will take place while her mother is in New Zealand.
